Obituary

With heavy hearts, we share that our beloved mom, Lorna Joyce Herdman (née Malcolmson), passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at the age of 82, surrounded by the love of her family.

Mom lived a life full of creativity, warmth, and unwavering devotion to those she loved most. She was the heart of our family—always ready with a kind word, a gentle smile, or a story that could brighten your day.

Lorna will be lovingly remembered by her children—Sherry (Bart), Christy (James), and Dean (Denise)—and by her treasured grandchildren: Evan, Davis, Olivia, and Jocelynn. She also leaves behind a circle of cherished friends and extended family who will miss her deeply.

An incredibly talented artist and a spirited game player, Mom brought color and joy into every space she entered. Whether she was painting, playing a round of bridge, dominoes, or mahjong, or simply catching up over a cup of tea or coffee, she made every moment meaningful. Her smile was contagious, her presence comforting, and her love unconditional.

Family and friends were truly the center of Mom’s world. Her home was always open, filled with conversation, laughter, and the comforting sense that you were exactly where you were meant to be. She had a remarkable gift for making people feel seen, valued, and loved.

A memorial gathering to celebrate Mom’s life will be held on Friday, April 25, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at McDougall United Church (8516 Athabasca Street SE in Calgary, Alberta). A reception will follow, where we’ll share stories, laughter, and memories in her honor.

Though our hearts ache, we find comfort in the beautiful legacy she leaves behind. May her memory continue to inspire us and bring peace to all who knew and loved her.
