Obituary

Our dear mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend Lois Katharine Kerslake, much loved wife of the late Donald G. Kerslake, died very peacefully at Agecare Seton, at 92 years of age.

She is lovingly remembered by her children Graham (Fern) Kerslake and Heather (Greg) Weir. Her memory will be cherished by her five grandchildren Matthew (Michelle), Andrew, Travis (Kayla) Kerslake and Katharine (Travis) Thorgeirson and Adam (Joanne) Weir as well as her eight great-grand-children George and Millie, Lillian and Kenneth, Annika and Bridget, and Eleanor and Frederick. She is lovingly remembered by her sister Margaret Greaves, her brother Bob Patterson, and twelve nephews and their families. Lois was predeceased by her parents Gordon and Jessie Patterson, her sister Willa Shearer, her sister-in-law Joan Patterson, and her two brothers-in-law Tom Greaves and Tarleton Shearer.

Lois was born on January 5, 1933, in Souris, MB. She enjoyed farm life with her siblings Margaret, Bob and Willa. She regaled us with many wonderful stories from the “Nine Mile Corner” and the challenges of growing up in the thirties and forties, which provided a rich foundation for her strong work ethic and common-sense approach to life. She graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Brandon General Hospital in 1953 receiving the Silver Medal for academic achievement. She married her high school sweetheart Don Kerslake in 1955 and together they made their home in Flin Flon and Dauphin, MB before moving to Calgary in 1969 and continued her nursing career.

Those who graced her life will remember her for her love and appreciation of her family, her church, and her nursing career. She completed a comprehensive family history as a lasting legacy of love to her family which showcased her treasured Scottish heritage. She was active in both the United and Presbyterian Churches throughout her lifetime and faithfully served as she was called. Being a caregiver was the essence of her being – her nursing career, spanning more than 45 years, was truly her calling.

The family offers their sincere gratitude to Dr. Shirlee Ren and the care staff at Agecare Seton for their attentive care; Beryl Onofriechuk and her family for their lifelong friendship and support to Mom; and to Morag, Pam and Barbara for their gift of friendship during this last part of her journey.

A Funeral Services will be held at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church (703 Heritage Dr. SW) on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at 11:00 am with Rev. Laurie McKay and Rev. Geoffrey Simmins officiating. Interment will take place in Souris, MB at a later date.
