Calgary Upcoming Events:
Acadia Pantry – 3rd Tuesday of the month, noon hour – next pantries: July 15th, August 19th. Drop by McDougall church on those days and see first-hand the work of the pantry in Acadia.
“Turn Debt into Hope” – Canadian Council of Churches/KAIROS campaign- Derek Cook- Poverty Institute, Ambrose University preaching on Sunday, June 22 at McDougall. For follow up, check out the Poverty Institute and sign the petition calling for dept relief for developing nations.
Calgary Interfaith Council Annual Meeting - 6:45 pm, Thursday, June 26th - Guru Nanak Sikh Centre - 739, 81 ST SW - Contact Sarah Arthurs,- info@calgaryinterfaithcouncil.org and become a member of the Calgary Interfaith Council ($30.00) and be part of a city-wide movement.
The United Church of Canada General Council 45 – “Visions & Dreams” – August 7 – 11 -Telus Convention Center – livestreamed. Come and be part of two public events at Knox United: Friday morning, August 8th – Public Apology to LGBTQ+ and on Monday, August 11, 7:00 pm – Installation of the new Moderator. Five candidates are nominated including the Rev. Dr. John Pentland, Hillhurst.
Calgary Pride Events – City-Wide Worship Service – Sunday, August 24, 7:00 – Stitched together: A Patchwork of Pride - Lutheran Church of the Cross, 10620 Elbow DR.
Pride Parade – Sunday, August 31, 11:00 am– march with Fish Creek United – Festival at Princess Island Park.
Orange Shirt Day – Saturday, September 27h – RDLUC – On the Edge Performer, Shane Ghost Keeper will host a concert beginning with a family event. Watch for information.
Chinook Winds Leader Shift Lay Leaders Event – Friday evening, Saturday, October 17, 18 at McDougall – workshops for church volunteers.
Feed The Hungry Dinner – October 19th – Watch for a fund raiser in September.
McDougall Special Fund-Raising Events: McDougall Fall Market – Saturday, October 4th with community vendors, Ogden Dinner – to be scheduled as of October 19 or 25, Red Deer Lake Annual Fund-Raising Dinner – Saturday, November 29th.
SoCal (South Calgary United Churches) Update –
SoCal Orange Shirt Day Commendation – Saturday, September 27th RDLUC – Program includes On the Edge concert with Shane Ghost Keeper plus “All Ages Event” – Can you help with the planning? Bob Mutlow will pull group together.
Action Item – Planning: Daren Patterson, Danah Cox, Marilyn Gates, Bob Mutlow volunteered to assist in the planning. Watch for more information.
2. General Council 45 “Visions & Dreams” – Calgary, August 7 -11 – Two public events:
Friday, August 8, morning – Apology to LGBTQ+ - Knox United
Monday, August 11, 7:00 pm – Installation of new Moderator – Knox United
General Council proceedings will be livestreamed.
3. Right Relations Healing Fund –
(4 A). Action Item - (Community Social Worker, Viviana Reinberg) Re: Earth Day, April 22nd at McDougall and Ogden Event May 3rd –
Danah Cox and Viviana to follow up on a Bannock making event using the contacts from Ogden Event possibly on Monday, September 22, Treaty 7 Signing Day. See the attached poster describing the event.
Viviana Reinberg to connect with Acadia Place to organize a lunch event Re: Right Relations to build community connections
Reconciliation Walk – see Attached poster
(4 B). Action Item: (Tony Snow) Stoney Park, Morley, Tipi Event – Exploring Traditions, Making & Set-up – led by women elders -$750.00 budgeted from Healing Fund

4. McDougall/Moravian Refugee Team – Seet Appendix – Attached Report

Follow up & Feedback to the United Church of Canada Refugee Webinar – concerns raised that the Church Office Team were not available for support -Bob Mutlow will follow up through Chinook Winds Region.
5. Acadia Network Meeting - Tuesday, May 27th at 1:00 pm –
Concerns raised about the future of the network in terms of who is attending and supporting the work of the Acadia Network.
Community Social Worker Viviana will follow up with the concerns and prepare next steps over the summer to prepare for the fall.
Acadia Pantry Fund Raising – Marilyn Bates is organizing a support campaign since there was no April fund raiser. Funds are in place to sustain the pantry to Dec. 31, 2025
6. McDougall Scholarship Program: Nick Perrin, Daren Patterson
The team began with $3,000 and was able to raise it up to $7,000.00 which provided scholarships to the seven eligible candidates for presentation on June 29th.
$300.00 is left in the account, raising concerns about the future of the program
7. Fall Stewardship Program Re: Local & Mission & Service Funds for 2026
Sarah reported that the Ministry Staff are trying to coordinate the fall program dates through the three congregations
It was suggested that the 100th Anniversary da Vinci picture, “A Place at the Table” be considered as a theme for the campaign, picking up on the “100 Tables for the 100 Years and encouraging churches set up hospitality picnic tables.
Building on the Place at the Table – the kick-off at McDougall could include a Sunday Table following worship with food and presentation of the Stewardship materials.

Neighbor Day – June 21st – Danah Cox will host the Acadia Neighbor Day program at McDougall - opening the doors to provide hospitality and use of the washrooms and to welcome the community to the church. Questions re: Cell Tower will be collected and followed up at a later date.
